Mindfulness ✪
To be conscious or aware of something
I said this when I first got laid off back in 2023 that the most fascinating thing about that experience was all the unlearning of tying my identity to my job title.
Though I wouldn't wish job loss on anyone, I think it's incredibly valuable to take a look at what you consider your identity and consider what you may need to unlearn in order to create the identity you want.
James Clear puts it so much more eloquently: "The more an idea is tied to your identity, the more you will ignore evidence it is false. People seem to have no trouble finding reasons to ignore the merits of ideas they dislike.
To continue to grow and learn, you must be willing to update, expand, and edit your identity. In many ways, growth is unlearning."
Mentionable ✪
Refer to something briefly without going into detail. Important or noteworthy, memorable
This might be a niche episode that only I find interesting. Regardless, I mentioned Dr. Andy Galpin back in the September Mid Month Momentum newsletter and while this episode gets a little more niche, I loved the end when he was talking about the necessity of movement quality being the top concern for him with ANY athlete he works with from professional to novice.
I found it really interesting that his first concerns are that we can run, jump, throw. THEN once those fundamental movement patterns are mastered he moves to the hinge, squat, pull, push movement patterns. Basically saying how form follows function and movement quality allows us to be more efficient.
TL;DR - If you're contemplating starting a new physical activity regimen, maybe consider incorporating running, jumping, and throwing in addition to your hinge, squat, pull, push movement patterns.
Motivation ✪
